Changes to how resident parking permits operate in Wokingham borough have been approved, including the introduction of several new areas.
In the summer, Wokingham borough council invited you to share your views on how it manages resident permit parking.
A six-week public consultation ran from August 13, and more than 500 people took part. Residents directly affected by the proposals received a letter outlining the plans.
Since the consultation closed, the council has been reviewing responses and updating its proposals. The executive has now approved the new policy. This means the new policy will guide how the council manages kerbside parking in residential areas across the borough over the next five years.
Key changes include:.
-
A tiered pricing structure for resident permits across all parking zones, setting the cost at £55 for the first vehicle and £105 for the second.
-
The introduction of virtual visitor permits. A batch of 10 permits will cost £12 for 2-hour permits, £20 for 6-hour permits, £30 for 12-hour permits and £50 for 24-hour.
-
The creation of four new resident permit parking zones in Twyford.
Other changes include making all resident parking zones 24/7 and aligning the cost of permits for state pensioners with the standard pricing.
The boundaries of the new zones in the Wokingham town area are being reviewed to accommodate feedback from the consultation. Revised boundaries will be published as a part of the traffic regulation order public consultation.
A detailed breakdown of the changes and what this means can be found on the Engage Wokingham Borough platform.
