OPTICIANS in Reading, Shinfield and Woodley are helping to ensure children shine bright by donating high-visibility vests.
Specsavers stores in Broad Street in Reading town centre, Shinfield Road in Shinfield, Reading, and Crockhamwell Road in Woodley, donated 150 vests to Redlands Primary, Alfred Sutton Primary and Radstock Primary schools to ensure children can easily be spotted by motorists when their activities take them out into the community.
Ravi Bhardwaj, a director at Specsavers Reading, Lower Earley and Woodley, says: ‘We wanted to do something to improve the safety of children in our community.
“We know that outdoor activities are a key part of the curriculum, so we hope that the fluorescent vests will help the children to be clearly visible to all road users.
“Many of our customers and staff have close connections with the schools, so we were keen to offer our support to help keep children safe when they’re outdoors.”
Jessica Kinch is the assistant headteacher of Radstock Primary School and said they were grateful for the donation.
“We often take children on trips in the local area and it is very important that they are easily recognisable and highly visible to staff as well as road users. We will put them to good use over the coming months,” she said.
All children under 16, as well as those under 19 in full-time education, are entitled to an NHS-funded eye test.
