A GROUP of performers from Wokingham Baptist Church told the Easter story on Good Friday, and drew crowds of onlookers.
Accompanied by keyboard and a solo vocalist, six actors dramatised Jesus’s journey to crucifixion, through monologues, prayers, and readings.
Several hundred people came to watch silently, including Wokingham town mayor Sally Gurney, and her consort Chris Gee, and The Rt Hon John Redwood, Conservative MP for Wokingham.
The atmosphere was sombre, with a wooden cross on a bare stage.
Ms Gurney said: “It was lovely to be here, to see this group sharing their faith with people in the town. “It was really moving, and I’m glad I came.
“It was powerfully done, and beautifully put together.”
The drama told the story through the eyes of the people who knew Jesus best.
Soloist was Anna Adams, with keyboard underscoring from Eve Bull.
The actors were: Jesus’s mother, Jackie Mouradian; Mary Magdalene, Savannah Bell; the disciple Peter, Paul Jeffery; and the thief on the cross, Adam Bell.
Readers were: Wokingham Baptist Church lead pastor Nick Hudson; and Arthur Kitching, and the prayer was Prudence Mwanza.
Wokingham actress and author Jackie Mouradian wrote the script.
She said: “The heavens threw it down at 11am, but the rain had cleared by noon.
“We were really thrilled that so many people came, and people told us they felt blessed by the presentation.
“What we wanted to do was to take people to Calvary.
“Everyone played their parts so beautifully, and people watching said how moved they had been.”
The dramatic presentation was organised by Churches Together Wokingham, and performed by members of Wokingham Baptist Church.
