AS COP28 takes place in Dubai this month, people are invited to join a Wokingham group to discuss the conference over a pint at an event called COPPP28.
It will be hosted by People Planet Pint (PPP) Wokingham, that meets regularly in a local pub.
Part of a national organisation, PPP aims to connect people keen to learn about how they can help mitigate the effects of global warming in their locality.
Anyone concerned about global warming can meet at PPP’s free evening event to discuss the positive steps they want to, or are already taking, for the good of the planet with other like-minded individuals.
Elizabeth Corse heads PPP Wokingham.
She said: “Our objective is to give those who may be tired of the relentless news cycle somewhere to come and feel heard, and learn about local action they can get involved with.
“This is for the community, by the community.
“We’ve been running People Planet Pint Wokingham for a year now.
“Over the last 12 months over 150 locals have joined us and it has led to many wonderful
community connections.
“I started People Planet Pint because I wanted to stop commuting to London to work in ‘climate’ and instead work in ‘climate’ right here in the town I chose to live in.
“I was very close to starting this up in Reading because I didn’t think much was happening locally.
“How wrong I was.”
Wokingham People Planet Pint attendee Claire Goodman, agreed: “I have come away every time energised by the people I’ve met.
“Hearing about the brilliant work happening on our doorstep gives me cause for optimism.
“Knowing these events are popping up around the country makes me feel part of a larger community and a sense that collectively we can make a difference.”
PPP founder Adam Bastock said: “COPPP is about starting broad conversations across all parts of the community, not just for sustainability experts, but anyone who is concerned or curious.
“There is no agenda, and no workshops or webinars at our events.
“It’s simply a chat over some drinks where you can meet others and hear about the work that is happening locally.”
The Wokingham COPPP28 event will be co-hosted by Elizabeth Corse and Anna Watson, and will follow straight after a talk by Wokingham Borough Council’s Climate Engagement Team the same day.
The WBC talk takes place at Wokingham Library, on Thursday, December 7, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
COPPP28 will be held at The Rose Inn, the same evening, from 6pm until 9pm.
The first 33 people to arrive will receive a free drink.
People can reserve a space by searching for Wokingham COPPP28 at Eventbrite.
