Pinewood Gymnastics Club star Yasmin Taite has announced she will retire from competitive action after fracturing her skull last week.
Taite, 21, has competed in tumbling and trampolining for Great Britain, winning medals at the World Championships among many other events.
But after a training accident last week, Taite fractured her skull and is currently in hospital in Basingstoke.
“After 18 years in gymnastics, I have finally decided to retire,” she said as part of an emotional Instagram post.
“It’s heartbreaking for me not being able to end on the terms that I would’ve wanted to, but due to what’s happened there’s nothing I can do about that.
“I just feel it’s the right time for me to step away.
“I have had the most incredible opportunities getting to travel the world, represent and win medals for my country and make life long friends.
“Gymnastics is more than just a sport, it became my second family which is why I will be continuing in a coaching capacity and hopefully inspire many children to be the best they can.
“I will miss the sport sooo much, but I’m sure I’ll be bouncing back again soon for fun.”
