THE PRIME MINISTER took time away from politics to celebrate Christmas at her local parish church.
St Andrew’s in Sonning welcomed their special guest when they held a candlelit Victorian Fayre on Sunday.
The event raised funds for the Karun School and Orphanage in South India, a charity that the church has supported for many years.
The former Director of Education of Oxford Diocese, Leslie Stephen, is the parish’s link: his father founded the orphanage in the 1970s.
St Andrew’s vicar, the Revd Jamie Taylor, said: “We have recently built a new church hall and all our efforts have been to raise the funds in the last two years. Now that this has been achieved, it is wonderful to once again look outwards and to raise extra money, on top of our regular giving, for the orphanage.
“Despite the snow, £1,100 was raised which will go a long way at the Karun home.
“It is great that after her most extraordinary week, the Prime Minister was able to come and spend so much time visiting the stalls and meeting all our young people.”
