Femi Azeez netted the only goal of the contest as Reading’s preparations for the new season continued with a victory against Championship side Queens Park Rangers.
Ruben Selles’ team now has just two more warm up matches before they begin the 2024/25 League One campaign.
Having been on show in a public friendly for the first time last week away at Woking, the Royals were in action in front of their home fans at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
Reading goalkeeper Joel Pereira was kept busy and made several impressive stops throughout the match as he looks to fight for the number one spot for the upcoming season having finished the last campaign in fine form.
The hosts forged their first chance of the match when promising young forward Jayden Wareham took aim but couldn’t quite hit the target.
Pereira was forced into action again late in the half as he rushed at the feet of Alfie Lloyd to block the ball before he then made an acrobatic save to deny Michael Frey with a header.
QPR came agonisingly close to snatching the lead on the stroke of half-time when Paul Smyth’s volley bounced off the underside of the bar, but fortunately for Reading, did not cross the line.
The Royals drew first blood quickly after the restart when Azeez raced onto a long ball and slotted the ball past Nardi.
There were plenty of second-half changes by Selles which saw Michael Craig, Emmanuel Osho, Harvey Knibbs, Mamadi Camara and Sam Smith all introduced.
Reading managed to stay resolute at the back to keep a lean sheet as they set themselves on their way ahead of their season opener at Birmingham City in two weeks time.
