READING ROCKETS have appointed Mark Bennett MBE as their new head of performance development.
Former British Commandos senior instructor Bennett comes in having previously worked in over 20 Olympic and international sports as well as using the same principles to impact on disruptive and disengaged children in inner city schools.
He was rewarded with an MBE in 2006 for his work in developing Performance Development Systems (PDS).
“I am delighted to bring the PDS to Reading Rockets,” said Bennett.
“They are a truly professional organisation that recognises the importance of instilling the correct mentality and behaviour for its players and coaches on and off the court.
“My approach is unique and requires a very specific mindset, but it is one that has proven time and again to result in positive growth, both individually and collectively.
“Having worked with GB basketball and Basketball Scotland, as well as clubs in the US, I am looking forward to transferring these experiences onto the Rockets.”
Bennett’s appointment follows the summer coaching overhaul with Alan Keane brought in as head coach, supported by new assistant Josh Thorne.
“These are exciting times for Reading Rockets with several notable appointments ahead of the forthcoming season,” said Rockets director of coaching Matt Johnson.
“Bringing Mark on board will take our club to an entirely new level of performance and mentality.”
