Parents and supporters of young players at Hurst Cricket Club turned out for a fundraising evening – and established a record for bar sales.
The idea was to make money to help cover the club’s utility bills during the winter, the off-season for cricket.
The bar’s new on-draught Rebellion IPA, Rebellion lager and Kicking Goat cider proved popular, along with the barbecue, a tombola and guessing games.
The club is busy spreading the word about the improved bar and also that the club pavilion, overlooking the cricket ground, is available to hire for parties and other social events.
Junior section organiser Rob Dewey said: “We broke the club’s record for bar sales by 8pm.
“I’d like to thank all the volunteers who put it all together and the people who defied the rain to come out to support us. The village really stepped up.
“Special thanks goes to Paul Palmer, who yet again has given his time to be DJ to provide music and help the cricket club and the village.”
Andrea Collins was in charge of the bottle raffle and three young cricketers, Lucas Jaworski, nine, Henry Crabtree, 10, and Adam Woodward, 10, ran games to guess the number of Lego bricks and the number of corks in bottles and also the name of a giant teddy.
