FUNDRAISERS in Reading and Wokingham can now sign up for a unique event to support charity Sue Ryder.
The palliative, neurological and bereavement support charity is welcoming people to take on its Starlight Hike 2023 to celebrate the memory of a loved one on Saturday, October 21, alongside family and friends.
There will be six nighttime hikes across the country, with Thames Valley’s event taking place around the grounds of Pangbourne College.
Participants can select either the 5k or new 10k courses and can complete their efforts as fast or slow as they like, with the event closing at midnight.
With a full programme of warm-up entertainment, live music around the route and the company of hundreds of like-minded people, hikers will surely not be bereft of motivation.
Last year, more than 8,100 people across the country were cared for by Sue Ryder’s hospice teams, including from its Duchess of Kent Hospice and Palliative Care Hub South Oxfordshire.
The charity’s doctors and nurses work to ensure patients’ pain and symptoms are managed to ensure families can spend their final days filled with love.
Individual fundraising targets for the event is set at £100, with money raised going towards Sue Ryder’s specialist teams to continue providing expert care.
The event starts at 6.30pm. Parking will open at 4.45pm, with registration beginning 15 minutes later.
