AHEAD of a national protest in London on Saturday, supporters of the European Union gathered in Winnersh to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
Members of Berkshire in Europe, which is campaigning for a second referendum on Brexit, called the event Building Bridges and was aimed at raising awareness of their cause.
And with the protest falling close to St Patrick’s Day, there were a number of Irish flags being flown by the group, who gathered at Loddon Bridge.
One of the organisers said: “We had a great turnout and lots of toots of support from passing cars.
“One guy did shout ‘Traitors!’ from a passing car but we didn’t get any real abuse.

“The wind was very strong and very cold – we really had to hang on with brute force to our banners and flags when the gusts came. But it was great to see the flags flying proudly.
“We had a mixture of EU, Union Jack and Irish Flags to show our solidarity and support to the Irish who have been treated abysmally by the Brits in this whole process.”
The group will now be gathering on Saturday, March 23 at 8am at Wokingham’s railway station and 9am in Reading to catch a train to London to take part in the Put It To The People march.
