Wokingham Town Council has released details of this year’s Remembrance Sunday events.
It is coordinating a parade to All Saints Church for its annual Remembrance Church Service at 3pm, where Rev Hannah Higginson will lead the afternoon service in partnership with Churches Together in Wokingham.
The parade will leave Market Place at 2.35pm, and organisations wishing to take part in the parade must register their interest with the Civic Officer in advance at [email protected] or 0118 974 0882.
Anyone is welcome to watch the parade and attend the service, although there will be limited capacity in the church.
Wokingham Town Council will also lead a two-minute silence on Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12, in Market Place to remember and honour those who sacrificed their lives.
During the Remembrance period, Wokingham Town Council will also open the war memorial inside the Town Hall to enable quiet reflection.
It will be open between 10am and 2pm between Monday, November 6 and Friday, November 10.
it may also be possible to visit outside these times by appointment by calling 0118 974 0882.
Wooden crosses and poppies are available from Waitrose and Tesco, and will also be available from a market stall on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between October 28 and November 11.
Wooden crosses can be placed at the memorial inside the Town Hall, or outside in Market Place where a stand is provided.
Cllr Sally Gurney, Wokingham town mayor, said: “I shall be honoured to attend the church service, and to lead both the two-minute silences this year alongside the Deputy Mayor.”
