Repairs to pavements in Wokingham town centre are purely temporary, according to Wokingham Borough Council.
Wokingham Today was contacted by several residents and businesses over the state of the pedestrian walkways in Market Place.
They were variously described as “horrendous” and a “trip hazard”.
A spokesperson for Wokingham Borough Council told Wokingham Today: “SSEN (Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks) has recently carried out urgent works in Market Place to address intermittent power cuts.
“As part of their work, pavements are being temporarily restored using alternative materials, as the specialist slabs originally used at the site take longer time to source.
“Resident safety remains our top priority.
“Given the high pedestrian traffic in Market Place, we have agreed to this as a temporary measure to ensure public safety, while waiting for the necessary materials to be available.
“No defects have been reported by residents so far, but we will arrange a site inspection as soon as possible to assess the area.
“Immediate action will be taken if any issues are identified during the inspection.”
