A consultation has opened over plans that could see an expansion of a popular restaurant.
Jalpari, an Indian restaurant and takeaway in Loddon Vale Centre in Woodley, has applied to Wokingham Borough Council for permission to convert its neighbouring property at the centre into a restaurant, in association with its existing operations.
Plan submitted by agents for the owner said: “ Up until a few months ago, Unit 3 was occupied by a cosmetic shop, however due to its position next to the Pharmacy the unit had to close and has been vacant ever since.
“A six-month departure notice was given to the landlords, and since then there has been no takers up until now for this unit.”
Citing reasons for the planned expansion, the agent said: “The current restaurant is quite small, and frequently has to turn customers away so the opportunity to increase the seating is one that seldom presents itself.
“As the kitchen does not need to be altered in any way, the only work necessary is to provide increased cloakroom facilities together with sound insulation..
“There is currently parking for over 50 cars at the rear, and an additional car park is available at the side of the unit after 6pm.
“The property abuts a chemist shop which closes at 6pm, and customers do not start coming to the restaurant until 6.30 pm at the earliest.
“The separating wall with the chemist has been considered and although as there is no perceived impact on the neighbouring unit, it is proposed to upgrade the separating wall to a decibel rating that far exceeds the domestic levels set out in building regulations.”
The consultation remains open until August 20.
