A SCHOOL STREET scheme could be trialled by one of Wokingham borough’s primary schools.
Radstock School in Earley has been earmarked for the scheme which would see roads closed to traffic during school pick-up and drop-off times. In Reading, the schemes are staffed by volunteers, the idea is to make it safer for children to walk, cycle or scoot to lessons.
Cllr Paul Fishwick, executive member for highways, told the council chamber: “We’ve now got the moving traffic offences powers, we can therefore use cameras instead of volunteers, which some authorities have to do.”
He promised to provide an update on the programme to councillors when addressing the council meeting of Thursday, March 21.
