WOKINGHAM was awarded a Silver Gilt for its efforts to brighten up the town centre with flowers.
Last Wednesday, the annual Thames and Chilterns in Bloom awards were presented in Woodley by Graham Barker, the High Sheriff of Berkshire.
Wokingham Town Mayor Cllr Julian McGhee-Sumner, WTC Bloom Officer Bob Sherrard and longstanding Bloom volunteer Jenny Gilbert received the award on behalf of the town council.
Cllr McGhee-Sumner said: “It was a pleasure to attend the ceremony and receive the Silver Gilt Award for Wokingham. Congratulations to all those volunteers and organisations who work so hard to make our town a more attractive place to live.
“They have done a terrific job this year despite the summer heatwave. Achieving Silver Gilt again is a great result that the whole town can be proud of.”
The Wokingham In Bloom is organised and run by volunteers from the local community with support from the Town Council.
Wokingham was also represented at the Awards by It’s Your Neighbourhood groups for Cockpit Path Community Garden, Wokingham Library’s River of Knowledge and Gipsy Lane Community Garden.
All produced a strong result, along with The Hawthorns Primary School who were Highly Commended in the Mark Mattock Schools Challenge.
