An organisation that sought to promote and support the village of Finchampstead has closed after almost 50 years.
The Finchampstead Society was established by a group of residents in 1976.
They were concerned about the possibility of urban development threatening what they described as “the rural charm” of Finchampstead and the surrounding area.
The society’s primary concern was to protect the wider community, and to ensure the rural nature of Finchampstead was maintained.
The decision was made earlier this year to close the society based on an ageing membership and reducing numbers.
Neil Doody, a former chairman and treasurer, told Wokingham Today: “The society is proud to leave a legacy in the form of its archive, which is being digitised, and the Jones VC trophy which will now be administered by Finchampstead parish council.”
He added the websitewill remain for five years to provide help and information.
