THERE’S nothing quite like stretching the legs on a leisurely weekend walk, especially with a group of like-minded people.
Dinton Walking Group (DWG) offers both.
“No one will ever know the pleasure that walking and talking within a group can bring until it has been experienced,” say organisers.
The society arranges around 60 member-devised and led walks throughout the year, usually within a 10 to 15 mile radius of Wokingham’s town centre.
Its aim is to help groups of walkers access the borough’s countryside safely, while promoting friendship among members.
Walks are usually between four and six miles long, and take place on both weekdays and at weekends.
Some London walks and trips further afield are arranged, too.
And members can enjoy an active programme of monthly meetings with relevant and entertaining speakers, as well as social events throughout the year; including suppers, a Christmas lunch, charity fundraising quizzes and an annual UK walking holiday.
Originally formed at Dinton Pastures, the group is now based at Barkham Village Hall, where members meet at 7.45pm on the second Tuesday of each month.
The group currently boasts about 125 members with around 20 or 30 attending most walks. Organisers say a very warm welcome is offered to anyone who would like to join for fresh air, exercise and companionship.
But they say it is also fine if walkers prefer to walk quietly and safely within the group, whilst enjoying the natural world.
Annual membership costs just £6.
