SOME schools will be switching to remote working tomorrow, while public transport will face changes as a result of Storm Eunice.
With high winds predicted between 5am and 9pm, contingency plans are being put in place to try and minimise the storm’s impact.
Reading Buses is currently planning to operate as near to normal as possible.
“We intend to operate all services tomorrow. We will only cancel or divert if there are safety concerns or inaccessible roads,” they tweeted.
Rail services will be affected with reduced services running. Services in South Wales will be closed all day, while there will only be one train per hour between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads.
Services between Reading and Newbury will not run, but people can catch an hourly Reading to Bedwyn service.
Direct trains to Gatwick will be cancelled. Passengers can use the Reading to Redhill service instead.
The Twyford to Henley-on-Thames line is planned to operate normally.
Wokingham Borough Council says it will run services including doorstep waste collections.
Reading Borough Council is planning the same, but as it uses wheelie bins instead of bags, it is asking residents to place bins in safe places, such as against a wall.
Once the bins have been emptied, especially food waste bins, residents are asked to put them in a safe place as soon as possible.
It warns: “Our crews will be replacing your emptied bins, especially your food waste bin, as securely as possible which may not be where it normally is. Please look out for it.”
Some schools will switch to home learning, with the building closed.
One of the first to announce its closure is The Bulmershe School in Woodley.
A note on its website said: “Due to the expected severity of Storm Eunice and the amber weather warning issued for this area, we have been advised by the local authority, to close the school on Friday 18th February 22.
“All lessons will be accessed via Google Classroom, and lessons will be live where possible.”
