A League One “supercomputer” has predicted a strong finish to the season for Reading, forecasting a late run of form that will see them secure a top-six place – but fall short in the play-offs.
The projection has the Royals finishing fourth on 81 points after 46 games, behind Cardiff City, Luton Town and Stockport County. Reading are tipped to score freely, ending the campaign with 84 goals and a +31 goal difference, one of the highest in the division.
Blackpool, who the model predicts will finish fifth, are expected to end Reading’s promotion hopes in the play-off semi-finals.
Reading have endured a tough start to the League One season which started under the management of Noel Hunt before he was sacked by the club last month with the team just above the relegation places.
Expectations were high going into the new season given that Reading only missed out on a play-off place by one position last season. There was plenty of change at the club over the summer including new ownership while several first-team players departed which meant that the Royals recruited numerous new players.
New manager Leam Richardson will be looking to push the team higher up the table and has made a promising start after the Royals defeated high-flying Stevenage in their only league match under his management so far.
Reading are currently in 18th position on 18 points from 15 games, three points above the drop zone and eight points away from the top six.
