Hungry? Donut worry — food delivery service Deliveroo launched in Wokingham today and will be handing out hundreds of free doughnuts this Saturday in the town centre to celebrate.

The app, which has become a worldwide success, enables hungry residents to order from their favourite restaurants and eateries and get their food delivered straight to their homes.

Baranda Restaurant, Its Pizza Time, The Tamarind Tree, Aroma Sandwich Bar, The Real Jamaican, Jerk Grill and Chicken Base will be joining the platform.

Other eateries such as Boishaki, Giggling Squid, Wokingham Grill, Burger King, Fifty Six, Pizza Express, Miltons Bar, Rangamati, Ruchetta Wines and Johnnos Pizza will also be available through the app.

The launch means more than 50 jobs will be created for Wokingham workers over the next year.

Deliveroo’s regional director for the UK Harrison Foster said: “Launching in Wokingham is a key milestone for Deliveroo. Wokingham has a thriving foodie community and a wide range of restaurants, so we’re excited to connect them.

“We look forward to working with our new restaurant partners to reach a new customer base and expand their businesses. Deliveroo will also create work for 50 local riders and are thrilled to offer a flexible role to the community.”

The app aims to deliver food, cooked, fresh to order and delivered from the restaurant kitchen to the customers’ door, desk or even park in less than 30 minutes.

Residents can now order food from a whole host of restaurants as the international company will partner up with 30 local eateries and takeaways by the end of the year.

The company will also be offering 25% off orders for the next four weeks, although a £20 minimum spend applies.

This is part of Deliveroo’s nationwide expansion into 50 towns and cities over the summer and autumn.

It hopes to reach an additional 6.5 million homes and be available to over half the UK population by the end of 2019.
