A WOKINGHAM band has been busy making music in the borough
Following their impressive win at the second sectional regional competition in March ,St Sebastian Brass Band has been playing at local events including a St George’s Day Parade in Marlow, and at the Wokingham May Fayre.
They also found time to travel north to Saddleworth to take part in the Whit Friday marches.
But residents wanting to hear them play locally this month can attend their summer concert at a Norreys church.
Tenor horn player with the group Sian Moorhouse said: “This concert really is all about stories.
“In the first half, we’ll be playing a mix of music from stories and films, including Roald Dahl, and Westerns, many of which people should recognise.
“The second half tells the real life tragic story of a cruise liner, The Empress of Ireland, that sank.
“It covers a series of days on board, with ballroom music, a storm, and then the sinking itself.
“This is the programme that we played (and won) at the competition in October.
“We’re looking forward to sharing it with local audiences.”
The concert can be heard at All Saints Church, Wokingham, on Saturday, June 22.The band will be supporting SHARE Wokingham, who will be providing refreshments at their concert.
Doors open at 7pm with the music starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £12, or £6 for children – infants up to two years enter free.
The following weekend St Sebastian Brass Band will play on Armed Forces Day, in Peach Place, Wokingham.
Their music can be heard on Saturday, June 29, from 11am until noon.
