A CHRISTIAN-based youth organisation for boys is keen to find volunteers to help run its groups.

1st Woodley Boys Brigade provides fun activities, new friendships and exciting challenges for boys aged five to 17.

Activities include, games, crafts, competitions, drama, and cooking, with badges to gain, and lots to do outdoors in the summer.

Youngsters take part in weekend and summer camps, and are involved in the youth programme at Christ Church, Woodley.

Four age groups all meet at the church on Wednesday nights in term time, and the company is hoping to expand its team of volunteer helpers.

Company captain, Dylan Harman, said: “We’re always looking for more people to join our team.

“Even volunteering with us for an hour or so a week, you can make a huge difference in a young person’s life.”

Mr Harman has been volunteering with 1st Woodley Boys’ Brigade for almost a decade, having first joined the organisation as a participant when he was just 5 years old.

“Some of the best experiences I’ve had were through the Boys’ Brigade,” he said.

“I had chances to try archery, axe throwing, camping, and the Duke of Edinburgh award, to name just a few.

“Some were things I wouldn’t have considered doing otherwise, but they’ve created life-long memories.

“I volunteer because it’s important to me to give these same opportunities to other young people.

“Watching youngsters grow in confidence and leadership is fantastic.

“We know that we’re setting them up for success in whatever they go on to do.”
