Neighbour of the Year, sponsored by David Cliff Estate Agents, winner: Robert Purdom
Robert Purdom was given the Neighbour of the Year Award, sponsored by David Cliff Estate Agents.
It comes after he helped two neighbours who were about to set sail on a cruise from Southampton, when they realised that they had brought the wrong passports with them.
Robert was able to pick up the correct passports from their house next door and deliver them to the couple just in time, with 15 minutes to spare.
He has also been commended for his support of an elderly neighbour, now 97, who he helps with shopping, doctors’ appointments, and checking in on her.
Mr Purdom said being part of the event was: “Very exceptional, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, and it’s been very special.
“I wasn’t expecting the award at all–it was only last Thursday evening when we had dinner with [nominators] Salma and Iqbal and they told me I’d been nominated.
“I think they wanted it to be a bit of a surprise, and it really was–the trip to Southampton was a bit of a shock, too!”
As to whether he would be celebrating: “Some of my family are here–my son and my wife–but Sam and Iqbal are back in two weeks, so we’ll have a celebration with them.”
