A GROUP that exists to raise money for good causes is celebrating its 75th year.
The Rotary Club of Wokingham was formed in March 1951, with its inaugural meeting on July 1 that year.
Vice President James Berkeley said: “Embracing the Rotary motto, Service above Self, our members continue to fundraise and volunteer to support local causes and help the community in and around Wokingham.”
Projects and events include golfing days, the annual Wokingham fireworks display at Cantley Park, supporting Young Carers, Young Musicians, Rotary Children’s Fun Day at Addington School, and regularly running pig races at the Winter Carnival and May Fayre.
“We regularly collect outside supermarkets, allowing us to provide food vouchers for those who need extra help across the festive period,” said James.
Members also organise events addressing international disasters such as Polio Plus, the war in Ukraine (contributing to generators, medical supplies and an ambulance) and support organisations such as Shelter Box and Aqua Box.
Money raised through fundraising also results in donations to a wide range of local charities.
Club President Bruce Weir said: “We’re looking forward to another busy year of activities and would like to thank residents for their strong and generous support over the years.
“It’s a testament to the community spirit of Wokingham that we can continue to run our events and projects.
“We are also very excited to announce that we have collaborated with SD Studio Design and Digital Ltd for a special brand and marketing campaign to celebrate 75 years.

“SD Studios is a local innovative design and digital development studio which joined us as a corporate Rotary member in October 2024.
“It has played an integral part in planning our anniversary year.”
Members, families and special guests will be celebrating the club’s 75th anniversary at an event in April 2026, hosted by Wellington College in Crowthorne.
