A STEADY stream of people visited a Wokingham church at the weekend.
They were all wanting to explore All Saints Church’s Earth Fayre, an event designed to bring together local green organisations working for the good of the planet.
Due to the success of this first eco information hub, the church is looking towards the possibility of repeating the fayre next year.
Stall holders included: Simple Grids, Green and Active, Freely Fruity, The Green Party, Extinction Rebellion, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire And Oxforfshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT), Growing Places, Draught Busters, Path Ethical Investments and Floreat Primary School.
As well as visiting the information stalls, people were able to listen to a series of short talks.
These were given by: HP and Vodaphone, on Sustainability In Technology; Tom Blomley, who spoke about, What We Consume And Its Impact; Rob Thompson from Reading University, on Climate Change In Berkshire; and Growing Places Berkshire, who spoke about The Importance Of Nature For Wellbeing.
Other speakers were: Keira Salata from Wellington College, who highlighted Youth Climate Action And Empowerment; and Extinction Rebellion (XR), who spoke about , A Little Less Conversation, A Little More Action.
Visitor to the event, Peter, said: “It’s brilliant, so good to see these different organisations all together, sharing common values from different angles.
“I’ve just talked with an independent financial advisor about ethical investments, I’ve listened to a presentation by Vodaphone and HP about sustainable technology, and I’ve just been chatting with Extinction Rebellion about the need to protest.
“It’s great to hear at ground level what’s happening locally, rather than just in central London.
“The variety and diversity here is really compelling.”
One of the organisers, Adrienne, from All Saints Church said: “Today has gone really well.
“We’ve had a constant stream of people coming in.
“There has been something for everyone in the family, with activities for children, and lots of information for adults keen to know more about how they can help support the environment..
“We’re part of an eco group at the church, and we’re all really trying to do our bit for climate change.
“We’re keen to help local groups share what they are doing with the community.
“This event is just one of a series of things that we’ve organised, and following its success today, we’d love to repeat it next year.”
