A Bracknell-based gymnastics club coach has won a prestigious title at the British Gymnastics awards.
Kerry Scotts from Sparkles Gymnastics Club in Bracknell was jointly awarded the 2026 Development Coach of the Year.
This award celebrates a coach who goes above and beyond to support and inspire gymnasts at any stage of their journey. It’s for someone who truly cares about their gymnasts, makes the sport enjoyable for everyone, and helps each athlete grow and progress.
They show great coaching skills, keep learning to be the best they can be, and love getting involved in the wider community.
Kerry has enjoyed a distinguished career as both a gymnast and an exceptional coach. She is a Level 5 High Performance Coach in aerobic gymnastics and has been a valued member of the Great Britain coaching team for a number of years.
Throughout her career, Kerry has demonstrated an outstanding ability to develop gymnasts at every stage of the pathway, from grassroots participation to international performance.
Kerry said: “I was driving to the gym when an email came through from British Gymnastics.
“At first, I told myself I could read it later, was only minutes away, but curiosity completely took over. I couldn’t wait, so I pulled the car over, laughing at myself a little for how eager I was.
“When I opened the email and read that I had been crowned the winner, I felt an instant rush of emotion. I think I actually screamed “YAY!” out loud.
“It was one of those overwhelming moments. I rang my husband straight away to tell him, needing to share that feeling with the person who’s by my side through this journey.
“It meant so much more than just winning. It validated the effort, the reflection, and constant drive to improve.”
At the heart of Kerry’s coaching philosophy is an unwavering commitment to the gymnast. Her work is never driven by personal recognition, but by a genuine desire to support each individual to be the very best they can be. Gymnast’s wellbeing, confidence and long-term development are always her priority, and this ethos is evident in every aspect of her coaching.
After a highly successful period at Bulmershe Gymnastics Club, Kerry went on to establish her own club, Sparkles Gymnastics Club. The club now offers a full programme ranging from pre-school classes through to senior international gymnasts. Regardless of level or ability, Kerry brings the same energy, care and dedication to every gymnast she works with, ensuring that each feels valued, supported and inspired.
Her success in developing gymnasts is consistently evident in competition outcomes. This year, a gymnast who began in a recreational class when Sparkles first opened went on to represent Great Britain at the Age Group European Championships in Ganja. This progression perfectly illustrates Kerry’s ability to identify raw potential, design appropriate and enjoyable development pathways, and guide gymnasts towards achieving their goals.
A powerful illustration of Kerry’s coaching ethos was captured in a British Gymnastics video filmed at the British Championships on 30 July, showing her preparing a group of gymnasts for their first routine. The overwhelming number of views, likes and positive comments reflects everything that makes Kerry an exceptional coach.
British Gymnastics CEO Sarah Powell said: “The 2026 British Gymnastics Awards recognise and celebrate the exceptional people, delivering, participating, or supporting the wonderful sport of gymnastics.
