A Wokingham town councillor has joined the Liberal Democrats a year after leaving Labour to stand as an independent councillor.
Councillor Alwyn Jones represents Norreys East and is the current deputy mayor for Wokingham town council.
In a statement to Wokingham Today, a spokesperson said: “Wokingham Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that Councillor Alwyn Jones has joined the Liberal Democrat group on the Wokingham town council.
“Following his resignation from the Labour party earlier this year, Cllr Jones has been sitting as an Independent.
“At the Wokingham Town Council meeting on December 9, it was noted that after joining the Liberal Democrat party recently, Cllr Jones has been accepted to sit as a Liberal Democrat councillor.”
Lib Dem Leader of Wokingham Town Council, Cllr Rob Comber said, “We are delighted to have Alwyn join our group.
“He is an experienced and dedicated local councillor who shares our values and will be a welcome member of our team, helping us to serve local residents.”
In the May 2023 local elections, he polled 16% of the vote in the ward and was elected as one of four councillors.
