Tributes have been paid to a popular referee who died last week.
Barry Haslewood had, until recently, been a familiar face on the Bracknell Sunday League, and at youth football matches for many years.
He was award d a Lifetime Achievement Award for his services to football at the 2018 Football in Bracknell awards, now known as the Football in Berkshire awards.
Known by many as “Barry the Book” for his style of officiating matches, he has been refereeing matches in the area for almost 40 years.
A period of silence was observed at the few Bracknell Sunday League matches that took place last weekend, with more planned for this weekend.
Pne former referee has described him as a “true legend.”.
A spokesperson for the Bracknell Sunday League added: “Barry was not just a much respected, thoroughly competent referee, but was a fine man that many, I know, befriended away from football.
“He always had a quip or two to offer, and he will be very sadly missed.”
