The Lions Share community food project, in collaboration with the Wokingham Foodbank, has announced two new sites in Wokingham where residents can now make Foodbank donations.
The Premier convenience store and post office in Woosehill and Londis (formerly NISA Local) in Barkham Road, have both agreed to host the bins outside their shops during opening hours.
The project, organised by Wokingham Lions Club started in March 2024 and has so far received donations of food, personal hygiene and cleaning products weighing more than one tonne.
A Wokingham Lions spokesman said: “We are so grateful to all the businesses who want to be part of this very important community project.
“Donations to the foodbank made via our big local Supermarkets have been falling since Christmas, but demand for their services has increased.
“Our aim is to do our bit to try and pick up the shortfall.
“By locating donation bins closer to people’s homes we’re hoping this will make it easier for people to donate.
“The Kimel Café and the three Mid-Counties Co-op’s in our area have all been with us from the very start and have been doing an amazing job.
“We would like to expand the scheme, so we are constantly on the look-out for more sites to locate the donation bins.
“The sites can either be a business or a local community group.”
