A 25-year-old man has been jailed after being caught shoplifting just hours after receiving a suspended sentence.
Muhammad Chaudhry, of no fixed abode, was originally given a 16-week suspended sentence for shoplifting at a Twyford store. However, within hours of leaving court, he was apprehended committing another theft.
Chaudhry has now been sentenced to six months in prison.
Police have emphasised the wider impact of shoplifting on retailers and the local community, warning that those who commit crimes will face swift enforcement action.
A spokesperson said: “If you commit crime in our communities, our officers will find you and take appropriate action.”
