A petition has been launched to seek solutions to car parking at Twyford railway station.
Almost every town and parish in Wokingham borough has residents who do, or would like to use Twyford station with its frequent rail services to London and Reading.
The success of the Elizabeth Line has made using this station even more attractive. The station parking , especially on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, is full by 7.15am, denying use by many who also find all nearby streets unusable as they are protected by double yellow lines.
Angus Ross, project team member and former borough councillor, told Wokingham Today: “There are only around 400 spaces in the railway’s current car park and some estimates believe up to a thousand spaces could be used.
“Some attempt by WBC and GWR to increase the numbers by only up to a further 50 spaces has constantly stalled and would only be a very small benefit.
“ The petition asks Wokingham Borough Council to work with Great Western Railway to assess the full need, and to explore proper solutions to expand the station car parking now.”
It is hoped to raise 1,500 signatures to enable a full debate on this matter at a full council meeting of Wokingham borough council to highlight the issue and prompt urgent action.
