TAI CHI & Qigong Day brings together people all around the globe, performing martial arts for spiritual reflection and physical well-being.
Described by the organisers as a message of global peace, the day is also an opportunity to raise funds for a good cause.
At the Scout Hall in Twyford, a local group joined in the world wide exercise programme.
Tai Chi for Wellbeing, run by Tricia Miller, chose to support Alzheimers Research UK with their open Tai Chi class.
Tricia Miller said: ”Numbers were down a little for this year’s fund-raising event, but we all had a fun morning, and we raised £55.20 for Alzheimers.”
Tai chi is a Chinese martial art, practised for self defence and fitness.
Its slow, controlled movements, when speeded up are powerful fighting techniques,
Some routines use Chinese broadswords, others use 8-Immortal bang sticks, which help to keep the arms in an aligned position, and Chinese fans.
Tai Chi For Wellbeing classes take place at the Twyford Scout hut on Mondays and Fridays, from 10am to 11am, and at Finchampstead Baptist Centre, Finchampstead, on Fridays from 10am to 11am.
