A GREEN fingered group held their final show of the year at St Paul’s Parish Rooms in Wokingham at the weekend.
Wokingham Horticultural Association’s (WHA) Winter Show met with approval from visitors and exhibitors alike.
“One returning visitor told me that he was totally blown away by the high standard of the exhibits and how friendly and enjoyable the whole show was,” said Janet Gordon, from WHA.
More than 220 entries from around 40 exhibitors were on show.
Visitors to the exhibition were also able to buy candles, craft items, plants, take part in a raffle, and enjoy homemade cakes and refreshments.
“By far the biggest categories for this show were handicraft, domestic and photographic,” said Janet.
“There are so many talented people in Wokingham, and there were some beautiful Christmas and winter themed flower arrangements, crafts and baking, alongside produce of sprouts, leeks, cabbages, and parsnips.
“It took three helpers to get the winning pumpkin from our recent Pumpkin Festival into the hall.”
Wokingham Town Mayor, Cllr Rob Comber, and Mini Mayor Celia presented prizes to:
Roy Rabbitts who won the Piggot Cup for most points in the vegetable section
Jenny Gilbert who took the Sarnia Trophy for most points in the flower section
Sally Gurney won the Goodchild Cup with most points in the domestic section
Pauline MacBrayne took the Iris Lush Cup for her Winter Store Cupboard
Sally Gurney’s Flannigan Cup was for most points in the handicraft section
Doreen Hogston won the Knowles Cup for most points in the flower arrangement section
Sophie, 18, took the Southfield School Winter Cup for best exhibit by a young exhibitor.
And Anne Blakeman won the Visitors Choice.
Certificates of merit were awarded to Sally Gurney for her cranberry and rosemary wreath; Ellen Colvin for her flowering pot plant, Sue Davies for her flowering orchid, and to Doreen Hogston for her flower arrangement, Fanfare for Christmas.
The group’s next show will be held in St Paul’s Parish Rooms on Saturday, March 29.
