LABOUR’S new councillor in Woodley says he is delighted to have been elected.
Cllr Tony Skuse won the Bulmershe and Whitegates seat that was formerly Shirley Boyt’s. She resigned just before the poll.
The victory over Conservative candidate Sagar Patel helped the party to its largest ever number of councillors in Wokingham – when the council meets on Thursday, May 18, there will be five of them in the chamber.
Cllr Skuse said of his victory: “It’s thanks to all the people who have done so much hard work on my behalf.
“I’m very grateful to everyone, and the staff here.”
And of being part of a bigger Labour group, he said: “It’s been a long time coming, and we’re very pleased that (the vote) is moving our way.”
At the count, the newly-elected councillor said he planned to celebrate with his supporters and enjoy a beer.
