A WOKINGHAM charity that supports older people held a summer fair at the weekend.
The WADE Day Centre fair welcomed members of the public as well as those who regularly use its facilities.
An annual fundraising event for the group, the summer fair did especially well this year.
Sue English, from WADE, said: “We were absolutely delighted with the amount raised, just £2 short of £3,400.
“One of our team commented that this was actually up 10% on last year, which is amazing.”
“We had good weather, and it was a lovely day for the visitors and their families.”
Around 200 people were at the WADE fair, which takes place in the day centre grounds, Reading Road.
“No Strings Attached ukulele band played a set of fun sing-along songs,” said Ms English.
“The Cowshed were selling hats, and there were plenty of stalls, including one with lots of plants and flowers for sale.
“There was tea and cake inside, and people were able to enjoy bowls of chips too.
“It was great to see members of the public popping in, and lovely to see families bringing their older relatives, to see where they spend time at the day centre.”
“The event raised much needed funds for us,” continued Ms English.
“As well as subsidising costs for our regular visitors, we need to make repairs, which are not easy in a grade II listed building.
“Our lift is currently not working and needs to be fixed, and we recently had a water tank leak upstairs, so our hairdressing room is out of action.”
Special visitors to the event were Wokingham Borough Mayor, Cllr Beth Rowland and Wokingham Town Mayor, Cllr Sally Gurney.
WADE Day Care Centre provides subsidised day care and support for older people in the borough,
Visitors can enjoy home cooked lunches, activities, services, and a friendly environment in which to socialise.
