Reading FC fans expressed their anger at the referee’s performance in their 1-1 draw at home to Rotherham United in League One.
The Royals managed to rescue a point thanks to a wonder strike from midfielder Charlie Savage, who made it two goals in two games with a spectacular finish from distance.
Despite the draw, several Reading fans took to social media to voice their disappointment at the officials.
One fan said: “Terrible ref, should’ve had at least one penalty in the first half. Kelv should’ve got 1/2 goals as well. Second half looked worse to be fair but Savage screamer secured a point. January window can’t come sooner.”
Another added: “Two clear penalties not given, another clown of a ref in the EFL.”
Another supporter said: “A frustrating match that we could have won but a time wasting opposition and a shocking referee limited things. It required someone to step up and get us at least a point and it was Savage who stepped up with a world class strike. Only 3 points above the drop.”
One fan said: “Often ref’s at this level are sh*t. But today’s also completely spoiled the game with his lack of awareness & understanding. Consistently bad positioning, guessing on decisions, unnecessary stoppages & managed to waste more time than Rotherham, incredible incompetence.”
Another added: “EFL, do you not employ referee assessors any more? Today’s referee shouldn’t even be allowed to ref a pub game. Blatant penalties missed & complete failure to apply proper stoppage time. Watch the video & say I’m wrong.”
