Generous football supporters dug deep into their pockets to support a Wokingham Town legend, and saw the club record a 2-1 in the process.
A crowd of more than 280 – the largest at Lowther Road so far this season – was asked to “pay what you want” in memory of former manager and clubman Clive McNelly, who died earlier this month.
More than £2,000 was raised in memory of Clive at the match last Saturday, who was also landlord of the White Horse pub on Easthampstead Road.
Wokingham Town’s winner from Ed Port (pictured) saw the club beat Bedfont Sports who had previously occupied a top six league position. Wokingham Town currently sit just outside the top ten.
Mark Ashwell, club president, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who came, and who generously showed their appreciation for Clive.”
A minutes’ applause was observed by both teams and spectators prior to kick-off.
Clive’s funeral will take place today, Friday, December 27, at Easthampstead Park crematorium.
