RESIDENTS from a dementia care home for older people took to the ice for a special skating experience.
Supported by staff and family members on skates, residents of Abbeyfield Winnersh were pushed around in wheelchairs to get the full experience at the Ozone Ice Rink in Bracknell.

The activity was organised by activities coordinator Michelle Hawkins, and supported by the home’s management to make it a reality.
Abbeyfield Winnersh manager, Alice Dunning, said: “We wanted to give our residents the opportunity to get out into the community and try something a little different.
“Some had been skating in the past, whereas for others it was a new experience.
“Ice skating gives people a sense of freedom, enjoyment, and connection, and can be a safe, uplifting activity for people of all ages and abilities.
“It was great to see the smiles on our residents’ faces, and it just proves that you’re never too old to get active and have fun.”

Ozone was keen to have the residents visit them, which operations manager, Matt Lock, described as ‘a moment of happiness, confidence and shared enjoyment’ that will stay with the residents and their families.
He continued, “Welcoming residents from a dementia care home onto the ice is something new for us, but it aligns strongly with our commitment to inclusion, wellbeing and positive community impact.”
