A BOROUGH ballroom club celebrated five decades of dancing with a night of smooth moves and live music.
As well as spinning on the dance floor, Winnersh Dance Club members were able to enjoy a buffet.
Duo Sugar and Spice provided music for the special half-century event.
Beverley Chiles from the club said: “It feels like quite an achievement to have kept going for 50 years, and to still be popular and enjoyed for that length of time.
“We were very lucky to have Sugar and Spice live duo playing for us; they also performed at our 40th anniversary celebration, so it was good to have them back 10 years later to be with us again.
“It was good fun, lovely to catch up with some of our past members, and to see people joining in with the dances.”
The gorup was founded in 1975 by Winnersh couple Sidney and Vera Hatcher, who offered ballroom, barn and sequence dancing sessions.
These days members can enjoy modern ballroom, Latin, jive, sequence, and line dance, as well as social dance events held several times a year.
Any dance couples with basic dance knowledge of ballroom, Latin, or sequence can join, with members learning new sequences each week, followed by refreshments and a time of social dancing to practise steps.
“It stretches your brain, it’s great fun, and it helps to keep you fit,” said Beverley.
The usual dress code is smart casual, with opportunities to dress up for special dance evenings.
Specialist dance shoes are not necessary.
Meetings at Winnersh Community Centre take place every Thursday at 8pm, except during the months of August.
