Since November, Wokingham borough mayor, Cllr Carol Jewell, has been walking the 55 miles of Wokingham Way in support of her chosen charity, Building for the Future.
She completed the challenge on Friday, January 23, with a very wet final stretch, navigating flooded footpaths to reach the finish line at the charity’s headquarters at Thames Valley Park.
Cllr Jewell said: “It was great to finish the walk and be welcomed back by my charity.
“The 55 miles turned out to be nearer 60 miles due to the recent flooding, but it was great fun and I enjoyed the walk and the company.”
Building for the Future is a parent-led charity that supports children and young people with disabilities, offering activities, therapies and a welcoming community space.
Jane Holmes, CEO, Building for the Future, congratulated the Mayor on completing the challenge, praising her determination, generosity and commitment to the community.
She said: “Carol’s walk perfectly captures the spirit of Wokingham – resilient, supportive and community-focused and we cannot thank her enough for helping us raise funds for the area’s disabled children and young people.”
