SPRIGHTLY at 106, Wokingham resident Irene Muggeridge is still spreading humour and fun.
She recently celebrated her birthday with family, residents and staff of the community where she lives at Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh Court, Sindlesham.
Some people say that age is just a number.
Those who know Irene say that in her case it’s certainly true.
Happy to have a go at anything, she is adamant that people are as young as they feel.
On her birthday Irene was surrounded by the many flowers and cards she had received, and enjoyed her toy cat Toby’s company.
“I always had a dog, so I thought it was the right time in my life to have a cat.” she joked.
Irene continues to join in many activities at the care home, especially sing-a-longs.
“And I usually know all the words,” she said.
A couple of years ago she took up arts and crafts lessons, creating her own woollen pom-pom, for which she received an official certificate.
“Irene has a fantastic sense of humour and a kind word for everyone,” said activities coordinator at Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh Court Sharon.
“She’s such a valued person at the home.”
