Charity fundraiser of the Year, sponsored by Blandy & Blandy, winner: David Fenton
A Finchampstead man has been recognised for his extensive charitable work at this year’s Wokingham Community Awards.
David Fenton received the accolade for his creation of Challenge For Change, an international initiative that brings together runners, swimmers, walkers and cyclists from around the world to raise money for children’s charities.
What began as a small fundraising concept has grown into a coordinated global effort. Mr Fenton has built a volunteer team, launched branded merchandise, created a dedicated website and produced advertorial content to raise awareness. He has also taken part in radio interviews and developed bespoke software to guide participants through the fundraising process.
Alongside leading the initiative, he has personally undertaken numerous walking and fundraising challenges in support of the cause.
The award was sponsored by Blandy & Blandy. Claire Dyer, chair and partner at the firm, said the event served as a reminder of the important work taking place across the borough.
“Blandy & Blandy is proud to be a part of the Wokingham community and to again be sponsoring this year’s Wokingham Community Awards,” she said. “The Awards and the evening itself are always an important reminder of the vital work being done by local charities, other organisations and individuals across the Borough, and of the positive impact that this has on many people’s lives. Good luck to everyone involved.”
Mr Fenton’s award highlights the growing impact of Challenge For Change and the contribution of community-led initiatives across Wokingham.
