FANS should not be too concerned if they spot Mike Wheeler looking over his shoulder at the Wokingham Festival.
The drummer with Never42, is currently starring with the show band, Lipstick on your Collar, performing hits from the 50s and 60s.
But Mike promises to make sure his collar is free from stage make-up when he joins fellow band members of Never 42 who have established themselves as the ultimate tribute to Level 42.
“I began learning the drums at the age of five following in the footsteps of my father, playing gigs with local bands in my teens,” he says.
“I went on to train for three years at the ACM before forging a career in the music industry. I’ve played and recorded with a variety of artists and bands.
Mike encourages young musical talent through his work with Surrey Arts.
He has also supported young artists by performing in the orchestra pit of numerous productions including Pickwick, The Sound of Music, Grease, Oliver and The Addams Family Musical.
Howie Rogers joined a few bands in the 90’s playing semi-professional in various pubs and clubs in and around the South East of England.
He met up with Garreth Hicklin in 1997, and performed numerous shows together in many bands.
Garreth is quick to point to his musical influences.
“I’ve always loved the music of Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, John Mayer, Vince Gill, The Doobie Brothers, Little Feat and Jeff Beck,” he explains.
Garreth has always admired Level 42’s music and musicianship, hence deciding to embark on this journey with Howie Rogers to bring the tribute of Level 42 to the public in the form of Never 42.
In 2001, Garreth recorded his first album, ‘Just 2’, with Neil McCullough in Clochy, Northern Ireland. The follow up was recorded soon afterwards and both albums received welcomed critical acclaim.
He went on to work with, Nostalgia, Night Shift, Stroke the Toad, Off the Record, Marcus Lillington, Rachel Joy Heath, Elio Pace and the successful touring theatre show ‘Lipstick on Your Collar’. Garreth also tours with The Eagles tribute ‘The Illegal Eagles’.
They’re sure to be a hit with Wokingham Festival audiences on Sunday night at 8pm.
