A man who threw faeces at a police officer as he was being arrested in Wokingham has been jailed for more than two years.
Charlie Pearce, 27, of Milton Road, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison at Reading Crown Court on 27 October after admitting a string of offences, including theft, assaulting an emergency worker and breaching a criminal behaviour order.
Thames Valley Police said Pearce was arrested in July following a month-long spree of shop thefts across Wokingham, during which he stole goods worth more than £2,500.
When officers detained him, Pearce threw faeces at one of them before being taken into custody. He was charged and convicted the following day.
Pearce had been given a criminal behaviour order by Reading Magistrates’ Court on 9 June, shortly after his release from prison. He went on to breach it 16 times between 18 June and 18 July, committing multiple shop thefts in that period.
PC Sullivan, who led the investigation, said: “Pearce thought he could commit these offences without facing consequences. He was wrong.
“Despite his best efforts to escape, including the abhorrent act of throwing his faeces at an officer, he was not able to evade arrest.
“Thefts from our shops impact local businesses and the wider community, and we will not tolerate it.”
