PROBUS members celebrated a generous amount collected for charity
MNDA will benefit from Wokingham Probus Club’s fundraising dinner.
After steak and ale pie lunch at Coppid Beech Hotel, members heard about the work of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
Representatives from the charity Luke Robson and Wendy Gouldthorpe explained that while the disease is incurable at present, the association sponsors research, and is supporting people affected by it, and their families, in financial and practical aspects of their daily lives.
Probus’s emphasis is on friendship, lunching together and social activities but the group also supports a chosen charity each year.
This year, chairman John Briault chose to support MNDA because a close family member had suffered from the disease
Nearly £700 was raised by the club for the charity.
Luke Robson described the donation as brilliant’ and that it will help to support people in the Berkshire area.
Probus Clubs provide opportunities for retired or semi-retired professional and business people (both men and women) to meet socially.
Wokingham Probus meets on the first Wednesday of the month at Coppid Beech Hotel, Bracknell, for social gathering, lunch and a talk on a subject of general interest.
Talk topics cover a wide range and are chosen to be informative and entertaining.
Presentations this year will be on: Edward and Mrs Simpson, The Battle of Britain, 18th century theatrical scandal, and hypnotism.
Between monthly meetings Wokingham Probus Club organises a book reading group, theatre visits, and outings for afternoon tea.
New members are always welcome to join a monthly meeting, by prior arrangement with the group’s secretary.
