Wokingham marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day last Thursday.
Town town mayor, Cllr Rob Comber, was joined by veteran John Patey to lay a wreath at the Wokingham War Memorial in the town hall.
In Market Place, REME veteran Peter Gaines from Finchampstead showcased two military vehicles from his collection.
Ian Scratton from Finchampstead’s Elusive Brewery also debuted ‘Beacons’, a limited edition pilsner to mark the anniversary. The Royal British Legion will get 50p from each sale.
The Wokingham British Legion was also selling pin badges and other memorabilia in the town, and at local supermarkets. They were also joined in Market Place by Barkham Hookers, who were selling their crocheted poppies to raise funds/
David Dunham, organiser of the Wokingham Poppy Appeal, thanked all volunteers for their assistance, the people who donated, the venues that hosted a collection, and Wokingham Town Council.
He confirmed that initial estimates showed that more than £4,500 was raised on the day.
