More footballing history is set to be made this weekend with the very first Adobe Women’s FA Cup tie in the town of Wokingham.
Ashridge Park Women will face Banbury United Women in the first qualifying round of this season’s national knockout competition in what will be a debut in the competition for the Wokingham side that was only formed at the start of last season.
An excited Duncan Owen, head of women and girls football at Ashridge Park, told Wokingham Today: “I cannot wait for Sunday afternoon.
“This is a massive thing for our club, and to be the first Wokingham team to take part in the Women’s FA Cup is a great achievement and a huge honour.”
A win for Ashridge Park on Sunday afternoon would result in £1,800, while even a defeat would pay £450 in prize money – more than the cost of the entrance fee for the competition.
The winners will also face a trip to north Buckinghamshire in the next round to face the winners of the tie between Newport Pagnell Town and New Bradwell St Peter on September 22.
Duncan said a win, and progression into future rounds of the competition, would be a huge thing for the club.
He explained how the club is self-funding with the help of sponsors and donations, and that his players pay to play.
Kick-off on the 3G artificial pitch at Cantley Park, Twyford Road, is 2pm on Sunday. Entrance is free, and the team would really welcome your support.
