ORGANISATIONS working with Woodley’s young people are being invited to apply for funding from the town council.
Grants of up to £3,000 are available, with additional funding available for some schemes.
The criteria is that the projects will help reach, engage or support young people aged 21 or under within the town. Awards will be made across the year.
Woodley Town Council’s leisure services committee will make recommendations to its fellow committee for strategy and resources, who have the final say.
Priority will be given to schemes that help vulnerable young people, tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, or help with employment, education and training.
Preference will be given to Woodley-based groups, projects that will primarily benefit Woodley residents, and requests for specific items or projects.
Successful recipients will be expected to provide feedback on how the grant funds have been used.
Cllr Darren Smith, chair of the leisure services committee, said: “Woodley Town Council is keen to support youth initiatives with this new grant scheme, especially where help is needed to support vulnerable young people in the area.
“I very much look forward to considering grant requests, which will make a real difference to those younger members of our community.”
This view was echoed by the leader of the council, Cllr Keith Baker.
“For many years Woodley Town Council have provided grants to Charities and individuals every year. This has provided financial support to many Woodley residents over the years, which is great,” he said.
“The Town Council, through sound financial management, finds itself in a solid financial position, so the timing is good to extend this concept to an area which we know is close to many residents’ hearts.
“The new grants will be available to support the youth of Woodley, especially those who are hard to reach and those who are disadvantaged.
“By making it a totally separate grant with its own budget means the money will be totally ringfenced for the youths of Woodley.”
