Wokingham’s celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day raised more than £3,200.
Events took place in Market Place last Thursday, with the British Legion and Barkham Hookers selling a range of items to mark the day.
Elusive Brewing were also on hand to sell the limited edition Peacetime ale that was brewed especially to mark the day.
Collections also took place at Waitrose and Tesco.
A period of silence was observed, with honorary town bugler Damon Emes performing the Last Post from the town hall balcony.
Both the town and borough mayors were then joined by MP Clive Jones to lay a wreath at the Wokingham war memorial in the town hall.
David Dunham, poppy appeal organiser for Wokingham, expressed his sincere thanks to everyone involved in the event, to Wokingham town council, and to those who generously donated.
He told Wokingham Today: “The amount raised here in Wokingham has truly exceeded my expectations.”
